The HRA hosted a Housing Summit in September of 2022.
The Summit covered the state of housing nationally and locally, and discussed the challenges to building new, attainable housing today.

ADU’s, or granny flat/mother-in-law suites, are additional homes on an existing lot. They can be attached to the primary home, above a garage or a separate structure. For more information, we recommend the following video:

There are a variety of ways in which local governments can help encourage and facilitate new housing. The two overarching categories are:
1) Providing financial resources or value (e.g., land).
2) Ensuring the public process, including zoning and permitting, are as straightforward and supportive as possible for the type of housing a community wants and needs.

The Federal LIHTC program started in 1986 and was designed to provide incentives for investors to invest in low income (affordable) housing. LIHTC is complicated, but here is a video that provides a great overview of the program and its uses:

USDA provides homeownership opportunities to rural Americans, and home renovation and repair programs. USDA also provides financing to elderly, disabled, or low-income rural residents in multi-unit housing complexes to ensure that they are able to make rent payments.
